Residential Garage Door Installations
Though the garage doors you see around may look similar at the first sight, these doors have their own features that distinguishes one from the other. This difference is more seen when it comes to comparing the garage doors used for commercial purposes and residential purposes. In determining the right garage door application for your residential garage door installation, it’s necessary to become familiar with the difference between a residential and a commercial application.
Understanding the requirements for and the usage of residential and commercial garage doors clearly helps define the differences between them. Watch an industrial (i.e. commercial) garage door being used compared to a residential door and it becomes apparent that both the types have lots of differences and they are of different origin and are two totally different breeds. The reason for such differences, once looked at, are obvious and numerous. One fact to be noted is that the industrial garage doors are opened much more frequently than the residential ones, which are opened only twice or thrice in a day. Hence, whatever may be the type of the door, residential or commercial; the industrial ones need to be stronger and must have the ability to withstand more tension than the residential ones. If a house is using their garage doors many times a day, then it would be preferable that such houses have industrial garage doors because the use is more industrial then residential.

Another point to be noted here is how many options are needed to enter the garage space. For a typical home, only a few options are needed to go into and out of the garage area. With the garage space being used as a workspace, more entrance options are needed. Recently, residential garages have become bigger, holding more than one or even two vehicles. Home owners have been building their residential garage’s to hold 3 or more vehicles and thus, more people have begun to choose industrial doors for their residential application, owing to the increase in number of individuals and hence cars, in their household. However, one big difference between these commercial like residential applications and actual industrial applications is that the doors aren’t required to be large as in a commercial application where industrial situations, the doors have very big gates and great width to hold more vehicles, or more specifically, huge trucks. Whereas the domestic ones only require smaller gates and smaller widths, owing to the fact that it is mostly used only for a single car at a time.

Further difference in commercial compared to residential is the industrial doors are heftier than the residential and usually require automatic control for the doors. This helps when the door has to be opened and closed numerous times. Also, when a garage space is being used under commercial like usage, automatic overhead garage door openers help manage these hefty doors in a proper and efficient manner. Think about opening and closing an industrial garage door housing very large vehicles and trucks several times a day without automatic doors, it would be a very strenuous job!
